Who is Amethyst Deasy?
I was born in a one-bedroom cabin in Kachina and spent my early years living in a converted 1954 school bus in the woods. I now have my kids going to some of the same schools as I did as a kid. Bicycling on the same streets, walking on the same trails…
I am a nurse, and a nurse’s job is to advocate for the whole person, not just the illness or injury they face on that particular day. It is about how we can make them healthier and happier unto the future through caring and support. I would take that same approach to the role of councilmember.
Improving the health of our people and our community is imbedded in many government decisions. Housing is public health, sustainable development is public health, creating walkable neighborhoods and improving recreational spaces, ensuring the public has access to nutritional food, and increasing competition in our local healthcare system so that the public has more affordable, quality care are all high priorities for me if elected.
I believe that especially since 2020, with the decisions that have faced Council, this lens as a nurse will help complement the skills and backgrounds on Council, so that collectively we can make the most informed decisions possible.
